Preparation & Safety

  • Gather Materials:Ensure you have the new device screen protector kit, which typically includes:
    • New Screen Protector
    • Cleaning Solution/Wipe
    • Microfiber Towel
    • A clean, dust-free, well-lit work surface.
  • Power Off: Crucially, power down the device before starting. Press and hold the power button and select "Power off."
  • Thoroughly wash and dry your hands to prevent transferring oils and dirt to the device and new protector.

Step 1: Remove the Protective Boot and Thoroughly Clean the Device

  1. Remove the Protective Boot:The protective boot is a rugged rubber or silicone case around the device.
    • Grasp the device firmly.
    • Locate a corner of the boot, typically the top or bottom corner that is not near a port.
    • Gently but firmly pull the edge of the boot over the corner of the device screen/housing to pry it apart from the device.
    • Work your way around the edges, peeling the boot off the device until it is completely removed.
    • Note: If the boot is particularly tight, start with the corner furthest from the charging port.
  1. Exterior Cleaning: Use a general purpose, non-abrasive cleaning wipe (not the screen cleaning solution) to wipe down the exterior surfaces of the device and the inside of the protective boot. Pay special attention to areas that collect dirt, such as seams and the edges of the boot.
  2. Set Aside: Place the cleaned protective boot aside for reinstallation later.

Step 2: Remove the Old Screen Protector

  1. Inspect for Cracks: If the screen protector is heavily cracked, proceed carefully to avoid cuts.
  2. Lift an Edge: Use a thin, non-metal object (like a plastic card or the edge of a plastic tool) to gently lift one corner or edge of the broken screen protector. Avoid using anything metal that could scratch the actual device screen.
  3. Peel Off: Once an edge is lifted, carefully and slowly peel the old protector away from the device screen.
  4. Dispose: Discard the old, broken screen protector and any residual adhesive film safely.

Step 3: Screen Cleaning for New Installation

This is the most critical step for a successful, bubble-free installation.

  1. Clean Screen (Wet): Use the provided cleaning solution screen cleaner (labeled "Screen Cleaner"). Gently wipe the entire surface of the device’s screen to remove all smudges, dust, and residue left by the old protector.
  2. Dry and Polish (Dry): Immediately use the provided microfiber towel to thoroughly dry and polish the screen. Ensure no moisture or streaks remain.
  3. Dust Check: Hold the device at an angle under a light source to check for any remaining dust particles or lint.

Step 4: Installing the New Screen Protector

  1. Identify Protective Backing: The new screen protector will have a protective film on the adhesive side, usually labeled "Step 1," "Back," or "Adhesive Side."
  2. Peel Backing: Hold the screen protector by its edges. Carefully peel back the protective film ("Step 1") only from the adhesive side, exposing the sticky surface. Avoid touching the adhesive.
  3. Alignment: With the adhesive side facing down, align the screen protector precisely over the device's screen. Use the edges of the screen, speaker cutouts, or camera holes as alignment guides.
  4. Application: Once aligned, gently set the protector down onto the screen. It should begin to adhere on its own.
  5. Smooth Bubbles:Use the provided bubble removal card (or a clean, firm plastic card) to push any air bubbles toward the nearest edge of the screen. Apply gentle pressure and work from the center outward.
    • Small bubbles often disappear within 24-48 hours.

Step 5: Final Check and Reassembly

  1. Test Touch: Power the device back on and briefly test the touch screen functionality to ensure the new protector does not impede operation.
  2. Reinstall Protective Boot: Carefully re-install the protective boot, ensuring the device is seated correctly within the case and all ports/buttons are properly aligned with the boot's cutouts.
  3. Return to Service: The device is now ready to be placed back into its charging cradle or returned to a team member for use.
